PALLETS

Pallets in all sizes and configurations fall into two broad categories: stringer and block. A variety of software packages assist the pallet-maker in designing the right pallet for the right load, evaluating options to reduce costs.

Pallet Management

Stringer Pallets

Stringer pallets are made from three or more parallel pieces of timber (“stringers”). The top deck-boards are affixed to the stringers to finalize the structure. Stringer pallets might also have a notch cut into them to allow four-way-entry.

Block Pallet

Block pallets, sometimes referred to as “Manoj pallets,” are typically stronger than stringer pallets. They use both parallel and perpendicular stringers to facilitate efficient-handling. A block pallet is also known as a “four-way-pallet,” because it allows a pallet-jack to use it from any side.

Perimeter base pallet

All stringer and some block pallets have un-directional bases: bottom-boards which are oriented in one direction. While automated handling equipment can be designed for this, it can often operate faster and more effectively if the bottom-edges of a pallet have bottom-boards oriented in both directions, making operation less sensitive to pallet orientation.
